Rays Win Series Against Red Sox

The Tampa Bay Rays (9-7) defeated the Boston Red Sox (7-9) 5-2 on Sunday afternoon at Tropicana Field. The win gives the Rays a win in the three game series against their AL-East rival.

After falling behind 2-0 in the first, the Rays answered with three runs in the fifth inning. Ji-Man Choi's pinch hit double tied the game before Manuel Margot gave the Rays a 3-2 lead.

Tampa Bay added a run on a wild pitch in the sixth, and another on a Yandy Diaz solo homer in the seventh, to build a 5-2 score that would prove to be the final total.

Shane McClanahan (1-1, 2.45) earned the win after pitching seven innings in which he allowed two earned runs on six hits while striking out seven and walking none. Ryan Thompson picked up his first save working a perfect ninth inning.

The Rays are off on Monday before beginning a three game series against the Mariners on Tuesday night. First pitch between Tampa Bay and Seattle is scheduled for 6:40 PM on Tuesday from Tropicana Field - pregame coverage begins with Jay Recher hosting the Inside Pitch at 5:30 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
