The Tampa Bay Rays (7-6) defeated the Chicago Cubs (6-6) 8-2 on Wednesday evening at Wrigley Field. The game was called after the top of the sixth inning because of rain in Chicago, being called an official game after five innings.
The Rays got on the board early - after Randy Arozarena hit a RBI double, he came around to score on a throwing error by Cubs catcher Yan Gomes. From there Francisco Mejia hit a two-run homer to make it 4-0. In the second inning Wander Franco hit a 2-run double to make it 5-0.
After the Cubs got two runs back in the third, the Rays answered with three more runs in the fifth inning to put the game out of reach. Josh Lowe hit a RBI triple before Francisco Mejia and Kevin Kiermaier each had RBI doubles to key the outburst.
The Rays are now off on Thursday before beginning a three game series with the Red Sox on Friday night. First pitch Friday is scheduled for 7:10 PM at Tropicana Field - pregame coverage begins with Jay Recher hosting the Inside Pitch at 6:00 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
