The Chicago White Sox (5-2) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (4-4) 3-2 on Friday night at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago. It gives Tampa Bay their third consecutive loss.
The White Sox scored in the second on a Drew Rasmussen wild pitch. Jake Burger, the #9 hitter in the lineup for Chicago, hit a solo home run in the third and a RBI single in the fifth to build a 3-0 lead.
The Rays got back into the game in the sixth inning with RBI doubles from Ji-Man Choi and Yandy Diaz to pull within 3-2. That would be as close the Rays would get as they dropped the opener of the road trip to Chicago.
Drew Rasmussen (0-1, 5.00) took the loss after allowing three earned runs on five hits while striking out two and walking none. Dylan Cease (2-0, 1.69) got the win after pitching five and two-thirds innings in which he allowed just one earned run while striking out eight and walking two.
The Rays will look to bounce back on Saturday afternoon. Corey Kluber will start for the Rays, and is expected to be opposed by Michael Kopech for the White Sox. First pitch is scheduled for 2:10 PM - pregame coverage begins at 1:30 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
