The Detroit Tigers (71-78) knocked off the Tampa Bay Rays (92-57) 4-3 on Saturday afternoon at Tropicana Field.
The Tigers got the scoring started with a three run homer from Jeimer Candelario in the first, followed by a solo homer from Dustin Garneau in the second to make it 4-0. The Rays got a two-run homer from Jordan Luplow in the bottom of the second, then a run when Ji-Man Choi grounded into a double play in the fourth, to pull within 4-3 but that would be as close as the Rays could get.
Ryan Yarbrough (8-6, 5.30) took the loss after allowing four earned runs on five hits in six innings of work while striking out four and walking none.
The Rays will look to win the four game series against the Tigers on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 PM - pregame coverage begins with Neil Solondz at 12:30 PM on AM 620 WDAE.
