Rays Open Series In Toronto With Loss

The Toronto Blue Jays (81-63) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (89-55) 8-1 on Monday night at Rogers Centre in Ontario, Canada.

The Blue Jays took control of this game in the middle innings, getting four in the fourth and three in the fifth to build a 7-0 lead. In the sixth Vladimir Guerrero, Jr, hit his 45th home run to take the lead in MLB's home run race. Austin Meadows hit a solo home run in the ninth to keep the Rays from being shut out.

Colin McHugh was the opener for the Rays, pitching two and a third innings of scoreless baseball on three hits while striking out one and walking three. He then gave way to Ryan Yarbrough (8-5, 5.27), who allowed seven earned runs on ten hits while striking out one and walking one in two and a third innings of work.

The Rays look to bounce back on Tuesday when they meet the Blue Jays in the second game of the three game series. First pitch from Rogers Centre is scheduled for 7:07 PM - pregame coverage begins with Jay Recher and the Inside Pitch at 6:00 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
