Red Sox Salvage Finale From Rays

The Boston Red Sox (80-62) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (88-52) 2-1 on Wednesday night at Fenway Park. The win salvages the finale for Boston, who was trying to avoid being swept by Tampa Bay in the three game series.

This game was scoreless until the eighth inning - Nelson Cruz drove in a run in the top of the eighth to give Tampa Bay the lead. But Hunter Renfroe came through with a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning that would prove to be enough as Boston picked up a 2-1 win.

Shane McClanahan got the start for the Rays and pitched five shutout innings, striking out three and walking one while allowing only three hits. JT Chargois (5-1, 2.54) took the loss after allowing the home run in the eighth. Rookie Wander Franco walked in the eighth inning, which extended his amazing streak of consecutive games having reached base to 38.

The Rays are now off on Thursday and will head to Detroit, where they will meet the Tigers for a three game series. First pitch Friday night from Michigan will be at 7:10 PM - pregame coverage begins with Jay Recher and the Inside Pitch at 6:00 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
