Twins Salvage Finale From Rays

The Minnesota Twins (59-77) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (86-51) 6-5 on Sunday afternoon to salvage the finale of the three game series.

After Minnesota got three in the second and another in the fourth, the Rays began to pull back in this game in the bottom of the third when Brandon Lowe hit a two-run home run. The Rays then got an RBI from Nelson Cruz in the fifth to pull within 4-3, before taking the lead when Austin Meadows hit a two-run homer later in the inning.

Nick Gordon led the comeback for the Twins, getting RBIs in the seventh and ninth to give Minnesota the 6-5 lead that would prove to be the final score.

Rookie Wander Franco doubled in the seventh inning to extend his streak of reaching base to 35 consecutive games. Luis Patino only lasted two and two-third innings starting for the Rays, allowing four earned runs on six hits while striking out four and walking three. Andrew Kittredge (8-3, 1.41) took the loss, allowing one earned run in the ninth inning.

The Rays now head on the road for a nine-game, three city road trip that begins in Boston on Monday. First pitch between the Rays and Red Sox on Monday is scheduled for 1:10 PM - pregame coverage begins with Jay Recher and the Inside Pitch at high noon on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
