Rqys Sweep Orioles, Push Lead In AL East To Four Games

The Tampa Bay Rays (68-44) rallied for a 9-6 win over the Baltimore Orioles (38-72) on Sunday afternoon. The win gives the Rays a sweep over Baltimore, and pushes their lead for first place in the American League East to four games over the Boston Red Sox.

Though the Orioles built a 5-2 lead over the Rays in the fourth inning, the Rays were able to rally with a six-run eighth inning. After tying the game 5-5, Brett Phillips came through was a grand slam in that eighth for his second home run of the day that would give the Rays all the runs they would need to secure the sweep over Baltimore.

Michael Wacha allowed five earned runs on ten hits in his five innings of work, while JT Chargois (2-0, 2.62) picked up the win out of the bullpen

The Rays are now off on Monday before continuing their road trip in Boston on Tuesday night. First pitch between the Rays and Red Sox on Tuesday night is scheduled for 7:10 PM - pregame coverage begins with Neil Solondz at 6:30 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
