Rays Sweep Red Sox Out Of Town

The Tampa Bay Rays (64-42) defeated the Boston Red Sox (63-44) 3-2 on Sunday Night Baseball. The win gives the Rays a sweep of the Red Sox at Tropicana Field, and Tampa Bay now leads Boston for first place in the American League East by 1.5 games.

Brandon Lowe hit a two run home run in the third inning to get the scoring started. After Hunter Renfroe homered in the fourth to pull within 2-1, the Rays answered with a RBI single from Manuel Margot to make it 3-1. The Red Sox got a run in the seventh off Drew Rasmussen to pull within 3-2, but the Rays were able to hang on for a 3-2 win.

Shane McClanahan (5-4, 3.74) picked up the win. He pitched six innings for the Rays, allowed one earned run on four hits while striking out seven and walking two. Matt Wissler picked up his first save for the Rays this season when he worked a scoreless ninth.

The Rays now turn their attention to the Seattle Mariners, who they host in a three game series beginning on Monday. First pitch from Tropicana Field on Monday is scheduled for 710 PM - pregame coverage begins with Jay Recher and the Inside Pitch at 6:00 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
