Rays Drop First Game of Pivotal Homestand to Yankees

The Tampa Bay Rays (60-41) fell to the New York Yankees (52-47) 4-3 on Tuesday night at Tropicana Field.

The Yankees built a 3-0 lead in this game thanks to a RBI single from DJ LeMahieu in the fifth, followed by a two-run double from Gio Urshela in the sixth. Though Brandon Lowe answered with a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to pull within 3-2, the Yankees responded with a homer from Ryan LaMarre in the eighth to make it 4-2. Randy Arozerena drove in Yandy Diaz on a ground-ruble double in the eighth to make it 4-3, which would be the final score.

Shane McClanahan (4-4, 3.93) got the start and took the loss for the Rays, allowing three runs on nine hits in six innings while striking out six and walking three.

The Rays look to even up the three game series with the Yankees in the second game on Wednesday night. First pitch from the Trop Wednesday is scheduled for 7:10 PM - pregame coverage begins with Neil Solondz at 6:30 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
