Rays Knock Off Cleveland In Extra Innings

The Tampa Bay Rays (58-34) defeated the Cleveland Indians (48-46) 5-4 in ten innings on Thursday night in Cleveland. The win capped a historic day for the Rays, who acquired veteran designated hitter Nelson Cruz from the Minnesota Twins moments before gametime.

Cleveland took leads of 3-0 and 4-1 before the Rays were able to rally. The Rays got two in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game 4-4 - in extra innings, Austin Meadows drove in Randy Arozerena in the tenth to lift the Rays to a 5-4 lead. Diego Castillo closed out the bottom of the tenth for his fourteenth save.

The Rays now meet Cleveland in game two of the four game series on Friday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM - pregame coverage begins with Neil Solondz at 6:30 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
