Rays Snap Skid, Win Series Finale Over Blue Jays

The Tampa Bay Rays (48-36) defeated the Toronto Blue Jays (43-39) 5-1 on Sunday afternoon in Buffalo. The win ended a five game losing streak, as well as snapped a skid of road losses at ten in a row.

The Blue Jays got the scoring started with a Randal Grichuk solo homer in the second inning. The Rays got two runs back, thanks in part to a Wander Franco home run, in the sixth inning to take a 2-1 lead. Then in the ninth inning, the Rays got RBIs from Austin Meadows, Taylor Walls and Mike Brosseau to make it a 5-1 win.

Ryan Yarbrough (5-3, 4.34) allowed just one earned run on four hits while striking out five and walking none in five innnings of work. From there, Collin McHugh kept Toronto guessing with three shutout innings, before Diego Castillo shut the door in the ninth inning.

The Rays now begin to Tropicana Field, where they are scheduled to host the Indians for a three game series to begin a homestand. First pitch Monday is scheduled for 7:10 PM - pregame coverage begins with Jay Recher and the Inside Pitch at 6:00 on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
