Blue Jays Hand Rays Fifth Straight Loss

The Tampa Bay Rays (47-36) fell to the Toronto Blue Jays (43-38) 6-3 on Saturday afternoon in Buffalo. The loss is the fifth in a row for the Rays, as well as their tenth consecutive road loss.

After George Springer homered in the second, Manuel Margot hit a solo homer in the fourth to tie the game 1-1. The Blue Jays broke the game open in the sixth inning with a five run frame - after they broke the tie on an error from Joey Wendle, Cavan Biggio drove in a pair before Santiago Espinal hit a two-run home run. The only offense the Rays were able to get back came with two outs in the ninth, when Kevin Kiermaier drove in a pair, but 6-3 would be as close as Tampa Bay would get.

Shane McClanahan (3-3, 4.02) took the loss after allowing three runs, two of them earned, on three hits while striking out five and walking two in five and a third innings of work.

The Rays look to avoid being swept in the series finale against the Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon in Buffalo. First pitch is scheduled for 1:07 - pregame coverage begins with Neil Solondz and This Week In Rays Baseball at 11:30 AM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
