The Seattle Mariners (38-36) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (43-30) 6-2 on Sunday afternoon. For the Rays, it was their sixth straight loss, and they remain a half game behind the Red Sox for first place in the AL East.
All tied up 2-2 after nine innings, it would be Seattle coming through - after the Rays were unable to score in the tenth, Shed Long Jr. hit a walk off grand slam in the bottom of the tenth to lift Seattle to the win.
Shane McClanahan allowed one earned runs on three hits in six innings while striking out eight and walking one. Diego Castillo (2-4, 3.62) picked up the loss after allowing the walk off in the tenth inning.
The Rays are now off Monday and begin a three game series with the Red Sox on Tuesday. First pitch Tuesday is scheduled for 7:10 PM - pregame coverage begins with Jay Recher and the Inside Pitch at 6:00 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
