The Tampa Bay Rays (41-24) defeated the Baltimore Orioles (22-41) 5-4 on Saturday afternoon at Tropicana Field. The win gives the Rays a series win in the three game series with the Os.
The Rays got three runs in the first, thanks to RBIs from Joey Wendle, Manuel Margot and Kevin Kiermaier. Tampa Bay added two more in the fourth when Brandon Lowe had a two-run double that made it 5-0. Baltimore answered, though, with a grand slam from Austin Wynns in the fifth to pull within 5-4 - from there the Rays bullpen was able to shut things down to hold onto the win.
Rich Hill allowed four runs, all of them earned, on four hits while striking out five and walking three in four and two-thirds innings of work. Collin McHugh (1-1, 2.70) picked up the win with two shutout innings in which he struck out five, while Diego Castillo picked up his eleventh save of the season.
The Rays now look to sweep the series with the Orioles on Sunday afternoon. First pitch Sunday is scheduled for 1:10 PM - pregame coverage begins with Neil Solondz and This Week In Rays Baseball at 11:30 AM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
