Rays Get Sweep of Phillies in Short Two Game Series

The Tampa Bay Rays (34-20) defeated the Philadelphia Phillies (25-28) 6-2 on Sunday afternoon at Tropicana Field. The Rays remained hot, sweeping a short two game series from Philadelphia and winning fifteen of their last sixteen games.

The Rays got the offense started with a two run home run from Mike Zunino in the second inning. In the fifth inning Brett Phillips hit a solo homer and Ji-Man Choi drove in a run to make it 4-0. Though Philadelphia got two runs back in the sixth inning, Joey Wendle drove in a pair in the seventh to lift the Rays to a 6-2 lead that would prove to be the final score.

Josh Fleming (5-3, 2.98) picked up the win after allowing two earned runs on four hits while striking out five and walking none in four and two thirds innings of work out of the bullpen.

The Rays now head to New York for a four game series against the Yankees which begins on Monday afternoon. First pitch Monday is scheduled for 1:05 PM - pregame coverage begins at high noon with Jay Recher and the Inside Pitch on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
