The Tampa Bay Rays (32-20) blew out the Kansas City Royals (23-25) 7-2 on Thursday afternoon to win a series at Tropicana Field.
Austin Meadows set the tone, going 2-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored. In the first inning he drove in two with an RBI triple - in the third inning he added a two-run homer.
Shane McClanahan (2-0, 3.29) pitched five shutout winnings in the win, striking out six while walking none and allowing only three hits.
The Rays now have a rare Friday night off as they will play the Phillies in a short two-game series beginning Saturday. First pitch Saturday is scheduled for 1:10 PM from Tropicana Field - pregame coverage begins at 12:30 on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
