Rays Bats Come Alive To Avoid Being Swept By The Yankees

The Tampa Bay Rays (20-19) defeated the New York Yankees (20-17) 9-1 on Thursday night at Tropicana Field.

The Rays got the scoring started in the first inning when Yandy Diaz drove in a pair with a base hit. Austin Meadows hit a two-run home run in the third, while Randy Arozerena hit a three-run home run in the sixth to pull away. Austin Meadows finished 3-for-5 with four RBIs after he drove in two more in the eighth inning.

Rich Hill (2-1, 4.26) was tremendous getting the start for the Rays, pitching six and two thirds innings of scoreless baseball. He allowed only three hits while striking out nine and walking three.

The Rays remain at home for a three game series against the Mets that begins on Friday night. First pitch Friday is scheduled for 7:10 PM - pregame coverage begins with Jay Recher and the Inside Pitch at 6 on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
