Rays Drop Pitchers Duel In Oakland Friday Night

The Tampa Bay Rays (18-16) fell to the Oakland As (20-14) 2-1 on Friday night in Oakland.

Sean Manaea was the story for much of this game for Oakland, as he did not allow a base runner until the seventh inning when he walked Randy Arozerena. In the eighth inning Mike Brosseau came up with a double to break up Manaea's attempt for a no-hitter.

The As took a 1-0 lead when Seth Brown drove in a run in the bottom of the seventh, but the Rays were able to tie the game in the eighth. After Brosseau's double broke up the no-hitter, Mike Zunino drove him in to tie the game 1-1. That would remain the score until the bottom of the ninth when Seth Brown came through for Oakland again, this time to hit a walk-off home run with two outs to give the Athletics a 2-1 win.

Rich Hill was tremendous for Tampa Bay, pitching six innings of shutout baseball on two hits while striking out four and walking two. Jeffrey Springs (2-1, 2.45) took the loss after allowing the walk off home run in the bottom of the ninth.

The Rays and As meet in game two of the three game series on Saturday afternoon.- first pitch is scheduled for 4:07, and pregame coverage begins at 3:30 on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
