The Tampa Bay Rays (2-3) fell to the Boston Red Sox (2-3) 6-5 in 12 innings on Tuesday night.
The day begin when the Rays announced Kevin Kiermaier would go on the injured list with a quad injury.
After the Rays built a 3-1 lead in the sixth inning, the Red Sox rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth when Christian Vazquez homered to tie the game that would force extra innings. After each team traded a run in the eleventh inning, it appeared the Rays would win in the twelfth.
After scoring a run in the top of the frame off a Randy Arozarena groundout, the Rays had the Red Sox down to their final strike in the bottom of the frame. However, hitting Alex Verdego on a 1-2 pitch with two outs would prove to be costly, as JD Martinez hit the game winning double to give the Red Sox the walk-off win.
The Rays will now look to avoid being swept by the Red Sox on Wednesday when the two teams meet in the final game of the series. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 PM - and pregame coverage begins with Jay Recher and the Inside Pitch at noon on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
