Red Sox Blow Past Rays Monday Night

The Boston Red Sox (1-3) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (2-2) 11-2 on Monday night in Boston to take the first game of a three game series. The win was the first of the young season for the Red Sox.

Boston scored early and often - after taking a 1-0 lead in the second, they scored two runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to take control of the game. After the Rays got on the board in the top of the eighth inning to attempt to crawl back into the game, Boston answered with a four-spot in the bottom of the frame to run away with this game.

Michael Wacha (0-1, 7.20) gave up five runs, four of them earned, in five innings in his Rays debut. Nick Pivetta (1-0, 0.00) got the win for the Red Sox after pitching five shutout innings.

The Rays will look to even up the series when the two teams meet in the second game of the three game series on Tuesday night. First pitch from Fenway Park is scheduled for 7:10 PM - pregame coverage begins with Jay Recher and the Inside Pitch at 6 on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
