PORT CHARLOTTE (WDAE) -- It appears that Major League Baseball is going to be the next league to close up shop while the Coronavirus pandemic is ongoing.
ESPN's Jeff Passan is reporting that after a conference call this afternoon, Major League Baseball is expecting to suspend Spring training and postpone the start of the 2020 regular season.
Major League Baseball would join the NBA, NHL, MLS, and college basketball in shutting down to help prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
The league has not made any formal announcement of a suspension or postponement.
Spring Training games began play at 1:00 Thursday afternoon. It's unknown whether games would be ended prematurely or how long the league would remain shut down.
