SNELL PLAYING CATCH TODAY: Pitcher Blake Snell, who had a cortisone shot administered to his left elbow Friday, is scheduled to play catch at Charlotte Sports Park this morning from 60 feet.

Snell said the plan is to throw from 60 feet today, then increase to 90 feet before a bullpen session on Friday.

WHITLEY TO SEE SPECIALIST AFTER FOUL BALL: Rays manager Kevin Cash said Tuesday that minor-league outfielder Garrett Whitley suffered multiple facial fractures after being hit by a foul ball while sitting in the dugout Monday at Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota.

"I think we avoided a scare, but there's going to be some missed time," Cash said. Whitley will see a specialist either today or Wednesday to determine the course of recovery.

It's the second freak injury for the 22-year-old outfielder, the team's first round pick in 2015 out of Niskayuna High School in update New York. He missed all of 2018 after suffering a shoulder injury while playing in a minor-league Spring Training game.
