PORT CHARLOTTE (WDAE) -- Yonny Chirinos worked in to the third inning Saturday, but allowed five runs on six hits as the Atlanta Braves went on to shut out the Tampa Bay Rays 12-0 at Charlotte Sports Park.
Chirinos gave up three in the first inning, including a two-run double by Adam Duvall, followed by a Peter O'Brien solo homer in the second. He left after walking Austin Riley to start the third, who scored on a Tyler Flowers double off Dylan Covey.
Tampa Bay did get scoreless innings of relief from Chaz Roe, Jose Alvarado and Shane McClanahan, but Atlanta four runs in the eighth off Colin Poche, including a two-run homer by Cristian Pache, and three more in the ninth off Phoenix Sanders, including a solo homer by Braden Shewmake.
The Rays managed just six hits on the evening, with a leadoff double by Willy Adames in the fifth inning being the only hit for extra bases.
