Snell Has Scoreless First Performance In 10-8 Loss To Twins

PORT CHARLOTTE (WDAE) -- Blake Snell worked a perfect inning in his 2020 Grapefruit League debut, and Mike Brosseau hit a two-run homer, though the Tampa Bay Rays fell Monday to the Minnesota Twins 10-8 Wednesday at Charlotte Sports Park.

Snell threw 21 pitches in the first inning Wednesday, including 15 for strikes. He struck out one while facing Luis Arraez, Royce Lewis, and Jake Cave.

Jose Alvarado also made his 2020 spring debut, though his outing was much different than Snell's. He allowed a pair of runs on two hits and two walks in the second inning.

Tampa Bay ended up going ahead on a two-run homer by Mike Brosseau, and led 5-2 before Minnesota stormed back scoring the next eight runs. They played two in the sixth, four more in the seventh, and two in the eighth.

The Rays plated three runs late to get back to within a pair, but could not get any closer.

Thursday will see Tampa Bay split their squad for the only time this spring. Part of the club will welcome the Detroit Tigers to Charlotte Sports Park, while the rest will head to Tampa to face the Yankees. Tyler Glasnow will start at home, and Aaron Slegers will get the nod on the road. First pitch for each game is scheduled for 1:05.
