REPORT: Rays Close To Deal With Japanese Slugger

ST. PETERSBURG (WDAE) -- The Tampa Bay Rays appear on the verge of bringing in their first posted player in a dozen years, as Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times was the first to report that the team is finalizing a two-year deal with outfielder Yoshitomo Tsutsugo.

Tsutsugo, who turned 28 in November, has played with the Yokohama Bay Stars of the Japan Central League since 2010. His breakout season came in 2016, when he hit .322/.430/.680 with 44 home runs and 110 RBI, and has averaged nearly 35 home runs per season since 2016.

The Rays have not confirmed the signing.
