Lowe Finishes Third In Rookie Of The Year Race

ST. PETERSBURG (WDAE) -- Tampa Bay Rays second baseman Brandon Lowe, named a finalist for the American League Rookie of the Year award, finished a distant third to Houston Astros outfielder Yordan Alvarez, the Baseball Writers Association of America announced Monday.

Alvarez played in just 87 games, the fewest by any American League winner of the award, but finished second in Batting average (.313), home runs (27), and RBI (78) And led all rookies in OPS (1.067). He received all 30 first-place votes, and was the only player that appeared on every ballot.

Lowe appeared on 15 of the 30 ballots, getting six second-place and nine third-place voted to finish behind Alvarez and Baltimore pitcher John Means.
