The Sporting News has named Tampa Bay Rays Manager Kevin Cash the American League Manager Of The Year following a 96 win season in Tampa Bay and advancing to the American League Divisional Series against the eventual AL Champion Houston Astros.

Of the 12 American League managers surveyed for the award, four of them picked Cash, more than any other manager in the league.

Per Sportingnews.com

"Cash’s Rays won 96 games this season, earning the second AL wild card spot despite an unhealthy amount of injuries — only two players appeared in at least 140 games — and only one player with more than 21 homers or 72 RBIs (Austin Meadows had 33 and 89).

There were games that the Rays, with Cash’s urging, little-thing’d teams to death. "

Cash is the second Rays manager to win the award, after Joe Maddon, who took home the honor in both 2008 and 2011.
