More Hamstring Issues For Matt Duffy

ST. PETERSBURG (WDAE) -- The Tampa Bay Rays were hoping to have third baseman Matt Duffy possibly rejoin the lineup and make his 2019 debut as soon as Monday, but it now appears that his return to the team has been again thrown into chaos.

The Rays announced Wednesday evening that Duffy, who had been on rehab assignment with the Triple-A Durham Bulls, re-aggravated his left hamstring playing against the Norfolk Tides, and that he will return to St. Petersburg to be evaluated..

According to Durham play-by-play broadcaster Patrick Kinas, Duffy appeared to re-injure himself on a check swing grounder in the third inning of the Bulls' game at Harbor Park, and did not go out to play left field when the home half of the inning began.

Duffy suffered the original injury in the final full-squad workout in spring training before the start of the Grapefruit League. He played in one big league spring game before being placed on the injured list to start the year. He had been eligible to be activated from the 60-day injured list Monday.
