REPORT: Silverman To Take Broader Role In Front Office

The shake-up for the Rays continues in this offseason.

Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reported Wednesday that president of baseball operations Matt Silverman will be transitioning to a broader role within the organization, joining team president Brian Auld in a role that will allow him to deal with more aspects away from the on-field product.

Silverman moved into his current role as president of baseball operations after Andrew Friedman left for the Los Angeles Dodgers.  Day-to-day control of the baseball operations department has largely rested with senior vice president and general manager Erik Neander and senior vice president Chaim Bloom.

Topkin reports that an announcement is not likely to come before next week at the earliest, and the team declined to comment to the Tampa Bay Times.
