TAMPA (620 WDAE) -- There's a lot of things you may notice about Rays outfielder Kevin Kiermaier when he's around, but now there's also something you notice that isn't with him anymore: his crutches.
"I just got off [my] crutches officially today," Kiermaier told Ron Diaz and JP Peterson on The Ron & JP Show Friday.
The Rays outfielder, who stopped by the studio, has been on the disabled list since being diagnosed with a small fracture in his right hip after sliding feet-first into first base in a game on June 8 against the Chicago White Sox. He said everything is coming along, and that he feels good in recovering from the injury.
"I feel great. I really do. I'm in no pain," Kiermaier said. "It's been a love/hate type of thing because I'm in no pain. I love that, but I hate it because it's very deceiving as well, and I feel like I could compete right now and be out there, but obviously that's not in the works for me."
The 27-year-old said he hasn't started doing any leg work, but is targeting a return August 8, when he becomes eligible to be reinstated from the 60-day disabled list.
The conversation also included suggestions Ron & JP had for walkup music when he returns, 4th of July stories, and the strengths of teammates Mallex Smith and Wilson Ramos.
