The 19th-ranked Miami Hurricanes (1-0) defeated the Florida Gators (0-1) 41-17 on Saturday afternoon in Gainesville.
Cam Ward threw for 385 yards and three touchdowns to lead Miami, who took a 24-10 lead into halftime. Xavier Restrepo had 112 yards receiving to lead the Hurricanes. Graham Mertz went 11-for-20 for just 91 yards at QB for the Gators, before heading to the locker room after being drilled on an interception at the end of the third quarter.
The Gators saw their streak of season-opening wins end at 33, ending a run that begin in Steve Spurrier's first year of 1990. It was also the Gators sixth overall loss.
The Miami Hurricanes return home and will host Florida A&M on September 7th at 6:00 PM. The Florida Gators are next in action also on September 7th when they host Samford in Gainesville.
