Gators Start Season With Win Over Florida Atlantic

The 13th ranked Florida Gators (1-0) defeated the Florida Atlantic Owls (0-1) 35-14 on Saturday night in Gainesville.

Emory Jones got his first start at quarterback for the Gators, throwing for 113 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions while running for 74 yards. When he was replaced by backup quarterback Anthony Richardson, Richardson shined as he ran for 160 yards and a touchdown. In spite of Richardson's great night, Florida coach Dan Mullen says Emory Jones remains the team's starting quarterback

The Gators built a 14-0 lead in the first quarter and led 28-0 midway through the fourth quarter before Florida Atlantic was able to get on the board.

The Gators now will head to Tampa next week for an in-state showdown against the USF Bulls. Kickoff from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa will be at 1 PM on Saturday - you can hear coverage of that game in Tampa on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620, home of the USF Bulls.
