Snapped Powerline Sparks Fire in Coral Gables

Fire crews were quick to respond to reports of a rapidly spreading blaze in the city of Coral Gables Friday morning just before dawn. Those crews rushed to the scene off Ferdinand Street off 57th Avenue in a residential neighborhood.

They were able to extinguish two vehicles completely charred, and also a portion of the garage to a home that the flames ignited.

Fire investigators on the scene report that an electrical powerline was taken off the grid after snapping and sparking this blaze. Florida Power and Light reports that as a result of this situation, power was knocked out to some 1400 customers in the area, but they are working to have the power restored as quickly as possible.

No one inside the home was hurt.
