Castor: Keep the Rays in Tampa Bay

As St. Petersburg mayor Ken Welch hits the "restart" button on the Tropicana Field re-development process, Tampa's mayor admits that a potential stadium site in Ybor City probably won't fly.

Jane Castor tells Newsradio WFLA's Ryan Gorman the design on the drawing board is simply too big for the historic district. "Domed, roof stadium is going to be 25 stories," the mayor said, noting the height restriction of 65 feet in the historic district. "So we're actively looking for other locations."

Castor says she understands that Welch wants to keep the Rays in St. Pete. She wants them in Tampa. "We're doing our best to develop a plan to keep them (in the Tampa Bay area)."

In an unrelated story, the owner of the Tampa Bay Rays is being sued by the co-owners of the team....again.

For the third time in the last year, minority partners claim that principal owner Stuart Sternberg illegally squeezed them out of their stake and profits of the team.

The suit accuses Sternberg of illegally transfering ownership of the club to his personal company.
