Orlando jury recommends the death penalty for Markeith Loyd

After deliberating five hours since yesterday, an Orlando jury Wednesday recommended Markeith Loyd be put to death for killing Orlando police Lt. Debra Clayton in 2017. The same jury convicted Loyd of Clayton's murder last month and this was the penalty phase of the trial. The judge has the final say. Outside the courthouse emotions were raw. Seth Clayton is the brother of Lt. Clayton.

"I cannot put into words what she meant to me," Clayton said. "To be taken away like that so sudden. It's hard for anybody."

Orange County Sheriff John Mina who was the Orlando Police Chief when Clayton was killed says he's grateful the jury has seen to it that justice will be served.

"He is a narcissistic sociopath who terrorized this community and killed Lt. Debra Clayton, someone who was trying to build trust in this community."

At the time of Lt. Clayton's murder Loyd was wanted for another killing - that of his pregnant ex-girlfriend. Loyd has already been convicted of that murder and was sentenced to life in prison.
