West Palm Beach Residents Urged To Gear Up For Hurricane Season

Local municipalities are urging residents to get ready for hurricane season. West Palm Beach Mayor Keith James says residents should know their evacuation zones and make sure neighbors, friends and relatives know their plans as well.

Assistant Police Chief Sarah Mooney talked about shelters at a news conference Thursday.

"The county's working very hard to make sure that all of the shelters locally follow CDC guidelines in regard to COVID. So there's going to be different spacial recommendations or mandates. There's going to be health screens as you come into a shelter."

She said to make sure you stock your hurricane kit this year with things like hand sanitizer, disinfecting wipes and masks.

The city also announced its hurricane season vegetation amnesty program, which allows residents to place large or unlimited amounts of vegetation waste for pickup at no charge through June 5th.
