Lawmakers Debate Sunscreen Ban

The full Senate holding a floor session to take a vote on the bill that would block local regulation on over-the-counter drugs and cosmetics, including all types of sunscreen. Supporters including South Florida Democratic Senator Lauren Book say it doesn't make sense to regulate sunscreen in the sunshine state.

"I think its important that we not limit any avenue for Floridians to protect themselves from skin cancer," said Book.

Opponents are throwing shade at the ban, worried sunscreens containing certain chemicals like Oxybenzone will wreak havoc on coral reefs, especially in the Keys. The Key West City Commission already voted to ban the sale of certain sunscreens beginning next year.
