Long Gun Buying Age Lawsuit Set for October Court Date

TALLAHASSEE -- The chief federal judge in Tallahassee has scheduled a trial October 19th of next year, to hear the suit brought by the National Rifle Association, against the law that raised the age for buying rifles and shotgun to 21.

The case was on hold for more than a year because the NRA wanted the two plaintiffs to remain anonymous. It dropped an appeal last month.

Judge Mark Walker also set a mediation conference for June 3rd to give both sides the chance to head off a trial.

Florida lawmakers passed the bill raising the age for long guns, in the wake of the 2018 massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, in which 17 people were killed.
