Florida's Primary-Election System May Get Major Make-Over Next Year.

Major tweaks could be coming to Florida's primary-election system in the new year. The way it stands now, only registered Republicans or Democrats can vote in a primary-but attorneys for the political committee "All Voters Vote" say that's unconstitutional. They're arguing before the State Supreme Court today for an amendment on the 2020 ballot to allow all registered voters, regardless of party, to cast ballots in primaries. Attorney Glenn Burhans says there are about 3.7-million Floridians-nearly 30-percent not affiliated with a specific party and they should have the opportunity to weigh in. He says the "closed" primary disenfranchises voters. Florida Republicans and Democrats oppose the proposal along with Attorney General Ashley Moody who is urging the State Supreme Court to keep the issue off the ballot.
