A coalition of groups representing older Floridians discussed priorities for the 2020 legislative session during the 'Silver Summit' in Winter Park Thursday. Dave Bruns with the AARP says the workforce crisis facing institutional care for frail elders must be addressed.
"We simply need more funding," Bruns said. "We need an inflationary increase. Nursing homes have not had a Medicaid reimbursement cost-of-living increase in five years."
Bruns says another issue is that there are 72,000 people on waiting lists for home and community based care. He says state lawmakers should help whittle down that list as much as possible.
The annual two month legislative session begins in January in Tallahassee.
