NTSB Releases Final Report On FIU Bridge Collapse

The National Transportation Safety Board has announced the exact cause of the deadly F-I-U bridge collapse. Six people died and ten others were injured when the 174-foot span of the bridge fell onto Southwest 8th Street in March of 2018. F-I-U student Richard Humble was in an SUV driven by fellow student Alexa Duran who lost her life, he escaped climbing out of the back of the car.

A preliminary report released last year shows it happened while workers were adjusting support cables at the north end of the bridge. It also shows errors were made in the design and cracking observed before the collapse and that the road should have been closed while the cables were being worked on.
