Toll Road Panel Holds First Meeting in Tampa

TAMPA -- Supporters say they'll not only improve transportation, but also communication, by bringing broadband to underserved rural areas.

Opponents say they'll bring urban sprawl and endanger wildlife.

Tampa's convention center hosted the first meeting on the new toll roads authorized by the Legislature and Governor DeSantis.

The three corridors are the Suncoast Connector, extending from the end of the current Suncoast Parkway in Citrus County to Jefferson County near Tallahassee, the Southwest-Central Connector from Naples to Polk County, and the Northern Turnpike Connector, which would tie Florida's Turnpike to the Suncoast.

The task force has about a year to return a report to state lawmakers.
