Alex Golesh's career as the head coach at USF began with a loss on Saturday afternoon. The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (1-0) defeated the USF Bulls (0-1) 41-24 on Saturday afternoon in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Byrum Brown threw for one touchdown and ran for two more after being named the starting quarterback earlier in the day on Saturday.
The Bulls built a 17-7 lead early in the second quarter, but Western Kentucky rallied to tie the game 17-17 at halftime. After each team scored a touchdown to start the third quarter, Western Kentucky scored late in the third quarter to build a 31-24 lead. The Hilltoppers added ten points in the fourth quarter to take control of the game.
Freshman Byrum Brown got the start at quarterback, going 15-for-34 for 166 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions in the air. He also led the team with 160 yards and two touchdowns rushing. Nay'Quan Wright also added 111 yards on the ground.
