The UCF Knights (8-4, 5-3) defeated the USF Bulls (2-10, 1-7) 17-13 in the War on I-4 in Orlando on Friday. The Bulls finish their season with just one conference win.
UCF built a 14-7 lead going into halftime, but USF used two field goals in the third period to pull within 14-13. After UCF hit a field goal with 8:51 to go in the fourth, USF drove the ball late deep into UCF territory. However, Bulls quarterback Timmy McClain was sacked in a controversial final play of the game, and the Knights would pick up their eighth win of the 2021 season.
McClain went 18-for-29 with 222 yards passing, while running in the only touchdown of the game for USF in the first quarter. Xavier Weaver was his favorite target, grabbing four receptions for 75 yards, while Jaren Mangham ran for 93 yards to set the tone for the Bulls ground game.
The Bulls will now head into the offseason having won just three games in the two years Jeff Scott has held the head coaching position at USF. The Knights will wait to find out their bowl destination in the upcoming bowl season.
