USF Uses Record Comeback To Knock Off Stony Brook In CBI

The USF Bulls (20-13) picked up their first postseason win since the 2012 NCAA Tournament with a 82-79 overtime win over Stony Brook (24-9) on Wednesday evening at the Yuengling Center.

The Bulls fell behind by Stony Brook by 25 points in the first half, and trailed at the break 48-30, thanks in large part to a 33-6 first half run by Stony Brook. USF started the second half on a 22-6 run of their own to claw back into the game, before finally taking the lead for the first time with 3:15 to go in the game. Stony Brook wouldn't give up without a fight, though, and the game was tied 66-66 at the end of regulation. In overtime David Collins opened the period with a three pointer and USF led the entire way to secure the win. Though Stony Brook pulled within one, Collins again came through with the game clinching free throws that secured the 82-79 win.

All told Collins finished the game with a career high 31 points - he also chipped in five rebounds, five assists and seven steals. Alexis Yetna had a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds, while Michael Durr added 13 points. The Seawolves were led by 21 points and 12 rebounds from Jaron Cornish - Akwasi Yeboah added 19 points in the losing effort.

USF advances to the quarterfinals of the CBI and will host Utah Valley at the Yuengling Center on Monday night. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 PM.
