The Florida State Seminoles (1-0) upset #8 Alabama (0-1) 31-17 on Saturday afternoon in Tallahassee. A year after they finished the season 2-10, the Seminoles ended Alabama's streak of wins to open a season at 23.
Florida State's new quarterback Tommy Castalleanos went 9-for-14 with 152 yards passing, but led a dominant rushing attack with 78 yards and a touchdown on the ground. The Seminoles run game out-gained the Crimson Tide 230-87, while FSU's offense as a whole outpaced Alabama 382-341.
Tied 7-7 after the first quarter, the Seminoles took a 17-7 lead into halftime. Florida State took control in the third quarter building a 24-10 lead going into the final frame before both teams traded scores in the fourth quarter to get a make it a 31-17 final score.
The Seminoles are next in action when they host East Texas A&M University on Saturday afternoon. Kickoff in Tallahassee on September 6 is scheduled for 12:00 PM.
