Seminoles Win ACC Championship

The fourth-ranked Florida State Seminoles (13-0) defeated the 14th ranked Louisville Cardinals (10-3) 16-6 on Saturday night in the ACC Championship Game in Charlotte. The win gives the Seminoles the ACC Championship and a shot at the college football playoff with a 13-0 record.

A low-scoring first half saw the Seminoles get the only points when Ryan Fitzgerald hit a 45-yard field goal with 10:32 to go in the second quarter. Louisville tied the game with a 36-yard field goal midway through the third quarter, before the Seminoles got the only touchdown by either team on the next drive. Lawrance Toafili ran in a 2-yard touchdown with 6:20 to go in the third to give Florida State a 10-6 lead.

Louisville got another field goal early in the fourth quarter to pull within 10-6, but that would be all they could get against the Florida State defense. The Seminoles added two field goals late in the fourth quarter to clinch a 16-6 victory.

The Seminoles were playing with their third-string quarterback on Saturday night. After Jordan Travis suffered a sever lower-leg injury that ended his season against North Alabama on November 18th, backup Tate Rodemaker came into the game. However Rodemaker suffered a concussion late in the game against Florida on November 25th that brought third stringer Brock Glenn into the game. Glenn went 8-for-21 with 55 yards passing, without throwing a touchdown or an interception, in the title game.

The Seminoles will now wait to see if they will be selected for the College Football Playoff, expected to be announced on Sunday December 3rd.
