Florida State Falls To Georgia Tech In 2020 Debut


The Florida State Seminoles (0-1) fell to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (1-0) 16-13 on Saturday evening to kick off the 2020 season.

The Seminoles were able to build a 10-0 lead in the first quarter - first James Blackman hit Keyshawn Helton with a 3 yard touchdown to end a seven play, fifty-two yard drive. Later in the quarter Parker Grothaus hit a 37-yard field goal to give the Seminoles the ten-point lead, which they would take into halftime.

Georgia Tech began their comeback in the third quarter when Jordan Mason scored a 19-yard touchdown run with 6:13 to go in the half. Late in the half Parker Grothaus hit a 53-yard field goal to make it 13-7 in favor of the Seminoles, but that would be all the scoring they would muster.

In the fourth quarter Malachi Carter caught a 15-yard pass from Jeff Sims to tie the game with 13:17 to go. Jude Kelley hit a 32-yard field goal with 8:56 too go that would give Georgia Tech the lead. Though the Seminoles had two fourth down chances on their final two drives, they fell short each time and Georgia Tech edged out the win.

True freshman Jeff Sims led the way for Georgia Tech, throwing for 277 yards and a touchdown pass. James Blackman went 23-for-43 with 198 yards, a touchdown and an interception at quarterback for the Seminoles. Florida State's next game is scheduled for September 26th against the Miami Hurricanes.
