The 15th ranked Florida State Seminoles (24-7, 12-6) knocked off rival Miami (20-10, 10-8) 66-57 on Saturday afternoon to clinch a double-bye in the ACC tournament and secure their first unbeaten record at home in 41 years.
The Seminoles led the Hurricanes 37-34 at halftime and built a 59-48 lead with 4:19 remaining. From there the Hurricanes went on a 9-2 run to pull within 61-57 before Florida State scored the last six points of the game to secure the win. Florida State also took advantage of turnovers, outscoring Miami 17-7 in points off turnovers.
Dwayne Bacon scored a game-high 23 points to lead Florida State, while Jarquez Smith added 11. The 24th ranked Hurricanes were led by 22 points from Ja'Quan Newton - with the loss, Miami will be the 9th seed in the ACC tournament.
The Seminoles go into the postseason as winners of three of their last four and return to action on Thursday as the number two seed in the ACC tournament.
